Description: The purpose of the Historical Society of Shawangunk & Gardiner is to promote and

Description: Huguenot Street, a unique historic setting, is located on a slight promontory above the
banks of the Wallkill River at the western edge of the Village of New Paltz. The settlement was originally the focus of a 39,683 acre Royal Patent granted to the French refugees on May 26, 1677.
Adjacent to the site is the Huguenot Trail and Wildlife Sanctuary. The site comprises a collection of seven houses dating from the 1700s. Included are five Colonial-era stone houses, a Federal-period house and a late Victorian house. Also located on the site, are the French Church and burying ground, a carriage museum, library and archives.
Collections:
The homes are furnished with heirloom and period pieces that reflect their multi-generational family ownership. Things made or used on Huguenot Street, or by descendants of the original settlers. The archives contain documents and photographs relating to New Paltz families, New Paltz town records & Huguenot history.

Housed in a former Dutch Reformed Church (1827) constructed of local bricks and hand hewn beams. The Society grew out of the efforts to save the building from being demolished. The Museum, opened in 1985, offers a view of the Esopus Community from 3000 BC to the present.

Description:
3 galleries exhibiting work by contemporary artists. One large gallery (added in 1992) displays the permanent collection.
Collections:
Collection of regional artists; database of permanent collection; papers and documents of artists from 1890’s to present; images of artwork and artists are available.

Programs: School tours and school displays; monthly exhibits by contemporary artists and 4
exhibitions per year in the museum wing. Docent tours, Sun, 2.
Special events: FAME (Fabulous Art Monday Evenings), talks by artists; Great Silent Auction in
the spring; Beaux Arts Ball and Live Auction, Labor Day weekend.
